What is TOPSoccer?
TOPSoccer is a community-based play, training and team placement program for young athletes with special needs (abilities). It is run by local volunteers and designed to meet the needs of children with physical and/or other special needs. The program targets those kids ages 4 and up who would like to play soccer, but are challenged by the traditional soccer environment, including those kids with physical supports and wheelchairs.
The program is geared towards player development rather than to competition.
We currently offer two TOPSoccer programs in Folsom. Both are fully funded by Folsom Lake Soccer League in partnership with the City of Folsom Parks and Recreation. Our goal is to provide soccer opportunities for youth athletes with physical and/or mental disabilities. Prior soccer experience is not necessary. Players will be supervised by a “Buddy”. Experienced FSC coaches will run exercises and games to introduce the game of soccer.
We host TOPSoccer Play Days four times a year in February, May, August and November. Play Days are free events open to all children with special needs to come out and have fun learning to play soccer. Players will be taught soccer skills in small group settings or stations, and will be cheered on and assisted as needed by a “Buddy.” Each Skill Station will be led by a registered FSC Coach and will feature soccer skills modifiable to each individual player’s interest and ability level. Following the Skill Stations, players will be organized into teams and will be able to practice their new skills in an informal scrimmage game, again with the assistance of Coaches, Buddies, and of course cheering family members and friends!
Registration for TOPSoccer Players or Buddy Volunteers for the next Play Day will open soon.
We will host our first 6-week TOPSoccer Mini-League Season beginning September 15 and running every Friday until October 22 from 6-7:30pm under the lights at Livermore Park! Each Friday night Mini-League event will consist of practice time and end with a 30 minute, 7 v 7 format game. Each team will be led by parent-volunteer coaches and assistant coaches with support from FSC certified coaches. Comp-level teams will assist Players as Buddies in both the practice and game portions, according to the needs of individual Players.
Registration for TOPSoccer Players for the 6-week Mini-League will open soon.
